Brentwood Area

With the Getty Center gleaming on a ridge above, treasures and pleasures of the Westside awaiting minutes away, Brentwood is known as the most convenient and desirable suburb in  Los Angeles' Westside.

Brentwood is surprisingly vast.  It includes Sullivan Canyon on the west and borders Santa Monica on the south, Westwood Hills on the east, and Encino to the north.  It also shares a border with West Los Angeles and the Veteran's Complex to the south east.

San Vicente Boulevard, its median graced with signature Coral Trees, is the artery from Brentwood to Santa Monica's bluffs. From dawn to dark, pedestrian (and bicycle) traffic co-exist with vehicular traffic, affording the vehicle's inhabitants a vicarious workout.

The beautifully remodeled Brentwood Country Club, located in the center of Brentwood, has a legendary kitchen and an excellent and friendly staff. This exclusive club features a meticulously groomed golf course, beautiful swimming pool, and well-maintained tennis facilities.

Since 1948, the Brentwood Country Mart has catered to everyone from local entertainment industry insiders, to moms with prams.  The courtyard-style shopping and intimate, open-air, hearth-heated patio is a lovely, year-round retreat.  Traditionally, The Mart has been the first stop for entertainment industry insider’s "power breakfasts."

The ever-popular Brentwood Village at Sunset Boulevard and Barrington Avenue has dozens of small shops, a renowned bakery and many excellent restaurants. Peppone's restaurant is a veritable institution in the Dean Martin, leather-banquette-style genre, where Aldo Luongo paintings and discrete lighting still prevail. Also on the eastern circle is the Hard Ware Store, a small jewelry store (not just repairs!).

Brentwood has several excellent public and private schools, and is approximately 12 minutes west of UCLA.   Public buses serve the Federal Building on Wilshire Blvd., Westwood, the Getty Center, and Santa Monica.

From West to East, the neighborhoods are Sullivan Canyon (an equestrian oasis), bucolic Mandeville Canyon, Brentwood Hills, Brentwood Park (stately mansions on large lots), Kenter and Bundy Canyons, the Brentwood flats, and Brentwood Glen.  There is a popular condominium and apartment neighborhood just south of San Vicente Blvd., from the Barrington area to Bundy Drive.  Mountaingate, between the Getty and the Skirball Centers boasts dramatic views.  It is a development of elegant townhouse-style homes.  There is a popular golf and tennis club that serves Los Angeles and its residents.   Mountaingate is a popular destination for those who work in downtown Los Angeles.
