Winter: Average high temperature, 65 degrees, although winter days in the 70s are common. Average overnight low, 51 degrees.

Rainfall: Nearly all of the rain that falls in this area is in the months from November through April, an average over the last 10 years of only 17 inches per year. The heaviest rainfall years total about 33 inches.

This subtropical, coastal-desert climate -- a "Mediterranean climate" -- is blessed with generally low humidity in the summer, and a low population of annoying insects.
